Mid-hot pepper Kalugeritsa (capsicum annuum) is a beautiful and delicious pepper from Macedonia. This Jalapeno-level hot pepper has a Scoville rating 2500-8000 SHU. Thus when picked ripe and left to stay for a few weeks it lost a part of hotness and got more mild than hot. This hot pepper was collected by Steve Neumann from the village Kalugeritsa (in the Republic of Macedonia) and brought to the USA to encourage the continuation of the cultivar. This pepper was not known outside of the region, and he was unable to find a variety name; therefore the pepper bears the name of the little town in which it is grown. Steve Neumann also introduced the uniquely etched Rheza pepper and the Ajvarksi pepper. A slightly pointed bit-size hot pepper is fantastic pickled, fresh, roasted or even made into a hot pepper sauce! The pepper has a full-bodied flavor.
